Teams from Ashford competed in Day 4 of the National Cadet League (Under 15’s) at Cippenham Table Tennis Club in Slough, Berkshire.

Ashford A – Division 1
Team: Charlie Cunningham, Ayush Buche, Dominic Lavender
First up was a close fought match against Warren Spring A which was lost 2-4, including each player narrowly losing one match in the fifth set.
The second match contained the best results of the day against a Crusader B team which included the number 2 and 4 players in Surrey (Jon Vai Chung and Mikael Toosy). Charlie beat both his Surrey team mates and Dominic beat Mikael and their number three Oliver Maric-Murray to complete a overall 4-2 win.
Next were a couple of tough rounds against the top two teams Oxford A (0-6) and Crusaders A (1-5).
The day ended with a 5-1 win against Crusaders C which saw the team finishing in 4th place.

Ashford A – NCL Division 1 – 2016-17
Ashford B – Division 3
Team: Lucas Holmes, Amit Bose, Aarya Karthik, Matthew Sandfort
The opening match against Ashford C went to form winning 4-2 (see below).
This was followed with a very tight match against Chiltern A. Four of the six matches went to 5 sets resulting in a narrow 2-4 loss.
St Albans B, the eventual winners, proved too strong in a 1-5 loss with Lucas gaining the only win.
A strong finish to the day saw a 4-2 win against Oxford C and 6-0 against Warren Spring C.
This saw the team finish in 4th place, however this was only one win away from Oxford C in 2nd.

Ashford C – Division 3
Team: Joseph Jafari, Junaid Ali, Shahana Nanuck, Rohan Raj
The team battled well against Ashford B with wins for Shahana and Junaid.
Next up a 1-5 loss to Oxford C before a 5-1 win against Warren Spring C.
In a very strong division the day finished with two 0-6 losses to St Albans B and Chiltern A.
Final place was 5th.

Ashford D – Division 4
Team: Parin Shah, Ryan Gibbard , Billy Knox
The D team have experienced a very up and down season.
In round one they won division 4 then in round 2 they were relegated from division 3 – so played the final round back in division 4.
Having gained only 2 wins last time out in division 3, it was a very different story back in division 4.
Wins against Oxford D, Chiltern C, Chiltern D, Chiltern B and Cippenham C saw a comfortable division 4 title win.

In 2014/15 we had 2 teams, 9 players, winning 19% of matches, finishing 5th in division 3 and 5th in division 4.
In 2016/17 we had 4 teams, 20 players, winning 47% of matches, finishing 4th in division 1, 4th and 5th in division 3 and 1st in division 4.
