National Junior League Results – 24th Jan 2015

Three teams from Ashford competed in the latest round (day 3) of the National Junior League at Cippenham Table Tennis Club in Slough, Berkshire.

Ashford A

Ashford A (Matt Hazell, Nikit Sajiv, Matt Hayman) played in Division 1.

Playing against mainly older players the team battled hard throughout.

Although they lost all their matches and were relegated to Division 2, it was a good performance.

In the final match of the day they played Chesham A in Division 2 resulting in a 3-3 draw, with 2 of the losses coming in 5 sets against their number 1 – so it looks like the team have now found the right level for themselves.

Ashford B

Ashford B (James Roper, Jake Gaywood, Nabeel Nanuck) played in Division 3.

The team narrowly missed out on promotion to Division 2.

In the match of the day against Warren Spring, there were no less than five, 5 set matches.

This title decider went to 4–4, with Jake playing Charlie Shephard in the final deciding match – which he just lost 11-7 in the 5th set.

Ashford C

Ashford C (Andy Pinto, Matt Palmer, Bradley Cotterell) also played in Division 3.

Playing in the same division as Ashford B, local honours went to form in the all Ashford tie, with Andy managing the only win against the higher ranked team by beating Nabeel – and also taking James to 5 sets.

Andy’s good form continued with a 5 set win against Bill Hayden from Reading.

Otherwise, it was a challenging day resulting in relegation to Division 4 for the 4th and final day on February 28th.

Congratulations to Bradley who played with great attitude and spirit in his first appearance at this level of competition.
