National Junior League Results – 14th Oct 2017

The National Junior League (NJL) is a Table Tennis England competition aimed at grass root players (Under 18) looking to experience a competition early on in their career. It bridges what was a large gap from beginner to the Junior British League.

Last season 180 teams played in 15 centres all over the country on 4 days.

Ashford has 3 teams playing in NJL 2017-18 (-1 on 2016-17) across 3 divisions.

Our matches are played at Cippenham TTC in Slough on:

  • October 14th 2017
  • November 25th 2017
  • January 27th 2017
  • February 24th 2018

Teams from Ashford competed in Day 1 of the National Junior League (Under 18’s) on Saturday October 14th, 2017.

Ashford A – Division 1

Team: Artur Bose, Amol Apte, Dominic Lavender, Ayush Buche

Our first team started with a tough match vs Cippenham A (1-8) with Amol securing the single point.

Next up was one of three Crusaders (B) teams in the top flight, a (6-3) victory with Amol, Artur and Dominic all winning 2 each.

The final round of the day was a tight battle with Warren Spring A – unfortunately all three 5 setters went the way of the opposition resulting in a (2-7) defeat.

Ashford B – Division 2

Team: Rahul Shah, Ellie Frost, Amit Bose, Marvin Tchwangwa

First up a very strong Crusaders D which finished (1-8), Rahul securing the solitary point.

Then followed two (3-6) defeats to Chiltern A and Hillingdon – wins for Amit (2), Rahul (2), Ellie (1) and Ayush (1).

This leaves the team in 6th place, however they have so far played the top three teams so still all to play for.

Ashford C – Division 4

Team: Matt Palmer, Joseph Jafari, Ryan Gibbard

The C team won all three matches: Cippenham C (6-3), Reading B (5-4) and Chiltern D (5-4).

Matt was top of the averages with 8/9 wins closely followed by Ryan 7/9.

Currently lying in second place, promotion is a realistic possibility.

Summary

Next and second day is Saturday 25th November.
