Juliette Moussarie wins at the Batts Tournament.

Juliette won both girls events U14 and U16 at the BATTS tournaments today !

U16: Juliette qualified in spite of losing to Jennifer Crapnell in the qualifying pool (5 set game). Juliette easily pulled through quarter finals (3 set game), and met Charlize Uy (ranked 38 in Cadets, and 9 in U13) in the semi-final. Charlize has great technique but Juliette varied her game very well and managed to win 4-1 (11-8,11-4,12-10,11-6). She met Jennifer again in the final, and using lessons learnt from the first game, beat her in 3 intense sets (12-10, 11-9,12-10).

The U14 was played in the afternoon and was perhaps evern more challenging ! This time Juliette finished first in her qualifying pool of 4, and went on to beat Katherine Shaw in a fierce semi-final. Katherine plays for the Eastern Region Team, and was supported by a coach. She demonstrated a powerful topspin game, taking the opening set from Juliette in a highly competitive game. In the final, Juliette met Charlize again. Charlize was ready for the re-match, and so were her circa 15 supporters from Greenhouse !! They cheered enthusiastically every point Charlize won, and stamped their feet in down times, while Charlize was receiving advice from her Regional coach, in-between sets, and during tactically placed time outs. Juliette also asked the umpire to remind folks to stop filming her without her permission. Juliette kept her cool and beat Charlize in 4 sets. In the 4th she enjoyed a comfortable win(11-5).

Juliette’s ranking has jumped from 61 to 45 U15 cadets last month and should hopefully progress further with the results today. She will however be facing much tougher opposition at the two star tournaments in Crawley next week, so will welcome any coaching support on the day ! This will be her last tournament before the national championship in Birmingham 1st June. Juliette will the play the U14 single and the U14 double with Jasmine Chan.
